I have a 1947 ford sedan, with the stock steering box. I would like to check the fluid in the steering box. Does anyone know where to check it and what kind of fluid would it take?

There is a plug on the top of the steering box that takes a 5/8 wrench. If you look at the top cover on the box, there are 4 5/16 bolts that hold the top cover on, one at each corner. In the middle is a slotted bolt with a lock nut on it. That is for adjusting the play in the steering. The only other bolt you will see is the plug you take out to check/add lubricant. Use ordinary 90W gear oil and put in as much as it will hold without overflowing.
