Well I guess it wouldn't make good TV if everything went alright, and there was no fighting and yelling.

Some of the people who "work" there are hired on by the Discovery channel to add to the drama of the show. For instance, that girl that appeared on the show for a few episodes. Don't get me wrong, she really knows her stuff, but I went to her web site and saw where she posted that the Discovery Channel asked her to be on.
American Hotrod and all those shows need to be taken for what they are: entertainment. Its like pro-wrestling. If you watch it thinking it is real, you're bound to be disappointed.

First you tell me the "build" shows are full of ringers... THEN you tell me pro wrestling isn't real? What's next? Easter Bunny? Tooth Fairy?
Take my advice... don't take my advice.

I could not agree more with all of you, but Duane is doing exactly what Boyd expects of him and that is to create controversy. For some odd reason Boyd seens to thrive on it. I was in his shop a few years ago with some friends and there was a generally unfriendly atmosphere. I did, how ever run into him at Bonnieville during Speed Week this year and I have to say he was very approachable and pleasent. He even agreed to let us get a picture of him with us and our rat rod. That said, I still wonder why people would want a car built by a bunch of disgruntaled employees.

I looked very forward to watching the show when it was first announced and began to broadcast. While I will still tune in for an epsiode here and there I prefer not to watch it as I thought I would be learning something about how Boyd builds cars. He doesn't from what I have seen. His name goes on it, I have seen him work on exactly one car in the episodes I have seen. And from his attitude towards employees and others who are not buying his cars I now refuse to buy any product associated with his name.

One thing I learned many years ago, attending management classes. You get more bees with honey than with vingear. What that means if you ask some one to do a job, he will do it willing and not fight you cause he dosen't want to do it. These mechanics are people trying to make a living. So they aren't the executives you hear of, but they are doing the best they can for a paycheck. Many trades people are really turned off with bully bosses. Bob

I guess this thread proves that like him or not Boyd brings in a lot of attention by being that hard to work with.

There is no substiute for experience, be it technical or real life. When you have a bunch of young guys in a shop like that who are there for the attention, you will never get anyone to take it seriously. Lets face it, those of us who truly work in the industry and build these cars because we love it will never be rich enough to have our name attatched to a super car nor get the credit for building it.
From a business sense, Boyd is as smart as they come by putting his name on as much as possible.......................

Much of his show is scripted. Duane is a real jerk though. Because of him, I quit watching the show!

I have met Duane in person..and I would agree...why would anyone want to act like that in our hobby. I have also met Mike and Charlie (both are great guys), they weren't just putting on an act for the show. and you all know where they are working now...and it's not for Boyd. Duane, he's not acting either...he seemed like that in real life also when I met him in Lousiville. I don't agree with some posts where all the shows are the same way. I like Rides, and Overhaulin' etc. They only reason I watch Americian HotRod is for the cars.

Well, at least he won't have to read crap like this any more. If you didn't like the man, his cars or his employees, all you had to do was change the damn channel! Get off your butts and go build a hot rod. Most of you asshats weren't fit to be the peanuts in his sh*t!
I didn't like a few of his cars and most of the drama on the show was hokey at best, but the man AND his employees have skills. When I didn't like the way a show was going, I turned it off. it wasn't that hard. The man did more in one year than most of you idiots bad talking people will ever do in your LIFE. So, until you butt munches get in the garage and build better, just STFU.
Oh, when you don't like a show, change the damn channel. It's REAL easy to do and doesn't require much instruction. Well, maybe for you asshats it does.

Take my advice... don't take my advice.
