HAS ANYONE USED THE COLUMN SHIFTER TO SHIFT GM AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION????  WE ARE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO INSTALL DETENTS TO PREVENT UN-WANTED SHIFT CHANGES.  WE CAN USE THE ORIGINAL SHIFTER....WE JUST NEED TO SEE IF ANYONE HAS INSTALLED THE DETENTS.  THANKS

I'm working thru the same situation with a 1948 Plymouth that has a TH350 transmission.  Retaining the original shift lever, and fabricating a shifter assembly that uses a flexible cable to the transmission to select the gear position.  The shifter assembly clamps to the steering column.  The shifter shaft will be cut off and not extend thru the floor.  An arm that fits into detents on the shifter assembly will be attached to the shifter shaft, and the flexible cable attaches to this arm. When the shifter lever is pulled toward the driver, the arm pulls out of the detents and can be positioned into the desired gear position. Releasing the lever allows the arm to drop into a detent.  Hope this isn't too confusing...if I can figure out how to send a picture, I will do that when I have this completed.  Might take a while, but I'm confident that this will work OK.
