The best Transmission to put behind a 49-51 Merc. Flathead

What would be the best Transmission for me to put behind a 1949-51 Mercury V8 Flathead engine? I am doing this conversion in a 1936 Ford 5-Window Cpe. I want to go to an open Drive shaft and already have a Ford 9 inch rear end. I am just planning this to be a Resto-Rod Cruising Street Machine. I want to still be able to get the best mileage and reliability.
