Okay, so I'm planing on restoring a 1965 Chevy C10 Pickup with my son and daughter.  My boy is 10 and my daughter is 9.  Here is where I need your help.

I have never restored a vehicle before and wanted to start with something easy.  Basically, I'm looking for you all to help me get through to my wife on why she should let me get a broke down, need to spend money on a project we can't use right away.

She is always complaining I don't spend enough time with my seven kids, and figured this should satify her, but I don't think it's working.  We can afford to do project, but I have to convince her that there is more to this project then just money.

What do you all think are the Pros and Cons of doing a project with my young kids?

Thanks for your help,

Sorry to burst your bubble, If you have seven kids maybe you should wait on the hotrod.  I have two boys that love the hotrods and who help alot fixing it up but really it is a guy thing.  Spend as much time with your kids as you can.  Another thing to consider is that when you do plan on fixing up a hotrod it will probably cost about three times what you originally think to restore.  Start taking the family to car shows until they want the hotrod and then go get one.
Pros - get to build a badass hotrod, chicks dig em. Kids might get into it, satisfaction of building something yourself.
Cons - this might be the last straw, wife might split, take the kids, rake you for thousands in child support for kids you hardly ever get to see. You get an old truck with no money to fix it up and an empty house in return.
Maybe it is just me but I think the family is always priority over the hotrod, but if it is a hard decision.  Go get the truck...

Wow 57chevy3100 you paint a pretty grim picture. I think it is a great way to spend time with the kids, just remember to be patient with them and don't let the project get in the way of family. If you can afford it, I say go for it, even if it takes several years it will be worth it.

I think it's a great idea IF you are certain that your kids will enjoy it.  I do have a suggestion - you could start small, with something like a nice go-cart.  I had an old engine and frame in the shed, and I hauled it out to make a nice little cart.  They helped build the frame, etc.  It's a project that kids can get their arms around and it doesn't take years to do.

Take my advice... don't take my advice.
