Questions about buying our first street rod.

After owning & showing many 60's cars and trucks over the last 20 years, my wife and I are going to finally graduate to our first street rod. We are leaning toward a '32-'34 Ford 3 window coupe. I believe in top notch quality and am willing to pay for it. However, everybody says that their glass body or chassis is the best. There are so many on the market that it is confusing. I have considered Kilbourne, Downs, N&N, Wescott, Outlaw, Street Beast. Any opinions out there? As a guy who is not up on street rod terms I have a few other questions: What is the difference between a "highboy" coupe or roadster and a standard? What is a "bobbed" frame? Does "c-notching" a frame lower the car? Thanks guys for any opinions out there to help us make this expensive decision.

First off don't buy the cheapest glass body. There are alot of good ones out there ,some you mentioned. They all take alot of finese to get them ready for a top paint job.Second ,I'd recommend a company that supplies a rolling frame also. That way the body will have been fitted to it and will make it easier for you.You didn't say you were doing the build yourself or having someone build it for you.If the latter I would find a good builder and discuss all this with them. And make sure you get everything you want written down in detail so there's no surprises later. There are lots of books you can consult on the subject with explanations of terms etc and I would highly reccommend you read some. Whether at the library or Books A Million or other book stores, you'll find books on car building, upholstery, paint and all things related. It's an expensive hobby and you want it right the first time.Good luck

Have you considered a steel body from Brookeville or any other manufacturers?

One body that was not mentioned was RUSSNOMORE bodies. My son and I just got our first two 33/34 bodies and chassis from them. Like any of the other bodies from other suppliers, they need body work. They have a web site you can go to. We are building them to sell along with a mechanic friend of ours and are planning to have the first one done for Crusin the Coast in Gulfport, Ms. in October. My son is a grad from Wyotech in Laramie Wyo. and we are trying to get his name out there and get him set up. We are also a distributer for RUSSNOMORE, but check out their site..

We ended up buying a fresh built '33 Ford Highboy Coupe with a N&N body, Superior chassis, Kugel IFS, Tuff Dawg 383/450 hp stroker. Just got it delivered 2 days ago and just breaking it in. Thanks.
