Hi all, need some help. I'm swapping the rear and trans on my 51 and have been unable to locate info regarding which late model rear would fit (I've already converted from leafs to ladder bar which are welded to the stock rear). Do you know which rear is the best fit for this car (length wise). I was told 68 to 74 Nova fits. Thanks, Steve

Consider a few things first...What size tire/wheel do you want to use? Will a slightly narrower rear end give you a couple of extra inches of tire, given the fact that you no longer have leaves to deal with? I'm assuming you want to use a Chev rear end by your post, and if so, what strength level do you need, 10 bolt...12 bolt? I have a customers car (51 Chev 2dr) waiting for space in the shop, and will start doing all the research shortly about doing something like what you are facing...this will have a big block and four link, so I'm leaning twords a 9 inch, but the same measurements and considerations will be taken into account. Since you have a ladder bar system in place, who cares what it came from (Nova, Camaro, whatever) because you're going to cut the mounts off anyway...I would concentrate on durability first, then size the rear to allow other things in the process (bigger tires, more backspace, etc.)

Fatman say's that a 65-67 nova is the right size and will let you run 8" wheels, also 67-70 Mustang, or 75-80 Granada. See the May 2007 Street Rodder page 156, it will give you all the answers you need!
