Does anyone know if you can use the original door latches and door guts with a shaved door handle kit.  Im building a 49 chevy pick-up hot rod and I dont know anyone who has installed a door kit and any advise or suggestions who be appreciated.   Thanks Mark

No problem to use gennie latches, but:
1. Remove, clean, moly lube, new pig tail spring if needed.
2. Use 35 pound solenoid or larger. Set it nose up so weight of solenoid aids the pull.
3. If you can not get a direct line pull, use a slideing door wheel from Home Depot to change angle.
4. If you don't have cable, I get it from the dump off trashed bikes. Or, bike cable replacement from Walmart.
Back in the day, 1957- 82, I used Chevy/GM 6 volt solenoids. Flatten the mounting ears and attach. Those babies would pull the latch out the socket !!
Today many kits are available. DO NOT buy actuators for that application. They are for sensitive bear claw latches.
