Looking at diffent engines with little to compare with. I have a 38 plymouth sedan and need to place new engine to get more power.  not looking to race but am planning on driving on the highway and around town.  318, 340, or 360 which would fit and be reliable without altering body moldings

I to,am working on a 38 Plymouth sedan, setting up with a smallblock Chrysler engine. The 273-360 are physically the same size.  The 273-318 left motormount ears are spaced wider than the 340-360.  You can use 318 mounts on a 340-360 by simply adding a spacer or washers between the ear and mount bracket.  Good to hear you are going that route rather than the SBC.  Also 360's are externally balanced so the 360 harmonic balancer and weighted torque converter must be used or severe vibration will occur.  When using an automatic trans you must have the kickdown linkage hooked up and adjusted correctly or you will burn up your trans in short order.  Post again for more help or private message me.   The 318 will give you better fuel mileage but the 360's would be a funner package.  Myron
