I HAVE A 52 FORD F-1 AND PLUMBED THE BRAKE LINES WITH STEEL. THE LINE FROM THE FRAME TO THE DISC BRAKES SHOULD BE FLEXIBLE STAINLESS STEEL.

Hi, I just joined this forum and saw your post. Probably a little late for your job but I thought I would share my experience.
I have just completed (4 days ago) installing brake lines in a t bucket I am constructing. I opted for stainless steel purely for the finished appearance as most will be exposed in a bucket. Whilst steel lines would be less expensive I would have to paint them neatly in a grey or black or matching the chassis colour.
The stainless pros: 1) Clean tidy appearance without painting. 2) Would last the life of the bucket. 3) Would not rust internally or externally.
Stainless cons: 1) In Australia EXPENSIVE! 2) Harder to work with.. (bending was more difficult) 3) You NEED and expensive flaring tool (sykes pickavent). Basic flarings tools will not produce a reliable double flare. 4) Very hard to source the correct fittings in Australia. 5) You also need a good quality tube cutter.
After the job was finished it looks great. It will all be removed until after the chassis has been painted then refitted unpainted.
One tip I found was to get neat small radius bends was to use a 3/4 drive socket about 1" or 1-1/8" that has a machine groove near the drive end and clamp it to a bench. Sit the 3/16 tube in the groove and slowly bend around the socket. The bend looks better than the bends out of the smallest tube bender I bought.
Good luck with your project. Regards Dave Australia.
